Bent El Nile Foundation Launches “Public Policy Paper” Entitled: “Strengthening Partnership Between Official Institutions and Civil Society Organizations to Combat Sexual Violence Against Minors in Egypt”

The policy paper is based on the findings of the latest monitoring report issued by the Nile Daughter Foundation during the period from 2020 to 2023, highlighting the high rates of sexual violence crimes against minors, which have exceeded thousands. The report also reveals the lack of involvement of official institutions and civil society organizations, with only 1.7% playing their role effectively. The analysis further shows that the majority of these crimes revolve around “indecent assault,” and that nearly all perpetrators are Egyptian males. This reflects the root and urgency of the problem, necessitating an immediate and comprehensive intervention from a feminist perspective.

Additionally, the policy paper presents various alternatives through a rights-based feminist approach, emphasizing the importance of enhancing cooperation between official institutions and civil and local society organizations. It advocates for a comprehensive and integrated approach that includes feminist awareness and education, strengthening local-local and local-international partnerships, conducting research and data collection, providing support and protection, and promoting reporting and access to justice.

Moreover, the paper stresses the need for legislative and legal reforms to create a safe environment that protects minors from harm and helps mitigate the negative impacts on the psychological and physical health of victims/survivors.
